What it covers

What sports podiatry covers here

We assess the lower limb under load and work out what your training is doing to it.

Lower limb biomechanical assessmentFor athletes and active people: how the foot, ankle, knee and hip behave while you are loading them, not just while you are standing still.
Diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, feet to hipsThe whole chain, because a foot problem rarely stays a foot problem once you keep training on it.
Coordinating imaging for the complicated casesWhen what we can see and feel is not enough to be sure, we arrange the scan and read it into the plan.
Acute and long-running problemsThe ankle you rolled on Saturday, and the shin that has been niggling since March.
A return-to-sport plan built around your sportWhat to load, what to hold, and in what order, for the thing you are actually training for.

Offer terms. New patients only. Available at our South Brisbane clinic, Unit 1/1 Cordelia St, and not at Indooroopilly. It covers the initial podiatry consult, 30 minutes. No referral needed. The $0 gap applies where your private health extras cover includes podiatry and you have annual limit remaining; your fund and your remaining limit decide what you pay on the day, and it is $99 without eligible cover. We accept all health funds. Anything beyond the first appointment is quoted in the room before it happens. All prices in AUD, per appointment. If you want the figure confirmed for your fund before you book, ring (07) 2103 3978.

Runners

The problems runners bring in

Heel pain that starts at a set distanceFine for the first few kilometres, then it arrives and stays. Often the plantar fascia, see plantar fasciitis in Brisbane.
Achilles pain the day afterStiff and tender to squeeze the next morning rather than during the run.
Shin splintsPain along the shin bone that tracks your weekly volume. Usually a load story before it is anything else.
Forefoot pain in the ball of the footTurns up with speed work, hills, or new shoes.
Recurring ankle problemsAn ankle that has rolled before and now does it on uneven ground.
The same injury every time you build upThat is the one where how your foot loads matters, see custom orthotics in Brisbane.

The appointment

What happens in the appointment

We start with your training: what you run or play, how much of it, what changed recently, and what you have already tried. Then the assessment, which is a lower limb biomechanical assessment, plus loading the sore structure to find out which one it is. Some of that may reproduce your symptoms.

Where it is appropriate, treatment starts on the day: strapping, footwear changes, loading changes, hands-on work. Both clinics also run shockwave and laser appointments, and we will tell you if either is worth considering rather than selling it to you up front.

You leave with what we think is driving it, what to change this week, and what the next few weeks look like if it goes the way we expect.

Questions

Sports podiatry, answered

How much is a sports podiatry appointment in Brisbane?

At South Brisbane the first appointment is $0 gap with eligible private health cover, or $99 without cover, for new patients with no referral needed. Indooroopilly is a standard initial consult fee, so ring (07) 2103 3978 for that figure.

How soon can I be seen? I have a race coming up.

Both clinics run Monday to Friday, with late finishes on Monday and Thursday. The online diary shows the real times, so book the earliest that suits, or ring and ask for the soonest. Tell us the race date when you book so we plan around it.

Will I have to stop running?

That depends on what we find, and it is a conversation rather than an instruction. Often the answer is a change to how much and how hard rather than a full stop, but we will not promise that before we have looked.

Do I need a referral or a scan?

No referral to book. If imaging would change what we do next, we arrange it and read it into the plan.

Do you take my health fund?

We accept all health funds, and consults are claimable with private health extras cover.

Where do I park?

Both clinics have a free parking garage, with wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance and restroom.
